Runway Extension Information - 2023

Construction on the Runway 18/36 extension will begin on July 19th, 2023. Work will be divided into multiple phases and is slated to conclude in October 2023. For all phases, please see NOTAMs for the most up to date information.

Phase 1

The first phase of this project will be a two-day complete runway closure. This will facilitate the displacement of Runway 36 to its new location. No access to the movement areas will be allowed. There will be barricades blocking Taxiways A1 and A2, and lighted "X's" at each runway end. 

Phase 2-4

The majority of work will be completed during this timeframe. The runway will be shortened during this period of time, with a displaced runway end for Runway 36. Taxiway A6 will remain open during this time, though aircraft will have to taxi to the appropriate threshold marking when using Runway 36. There will be no approaches in to Runway 36, though Runway 18 will keep its approaches. All of our normally allowed aircraft types will be allowed to operate during this time.

Phase 5

This phase will take place during a 10-day period during phase 2. The work during this phase includes improvements to Taxiway A6, and this taxiway will not be accessible during this period. Due to the proximity of construction to the displaced Runway 36 threshold, we will need to limit the types of aircraft allowed to operate on the runway. Only Aircraft Approach Category (AAC) A/B aircraft will be allowed to operate during this timeframe. Please see below for additional information on these restrictions. 

Phase 6

Following the completion of paving, the runway will undergo a second two-day closure in order to re-open the runway at its full length. Similar to Phase 1, the movement areas will be completely closed during this period.

Phase 7

This final phase will include overnight runway closures to facilitate grooving of the new runway. These closures will occur overnight, and should have minimal impact on daily operations.
